Autism: High Complexity Disability & Medical
My focus is on complex presentations of Autism which often make paediatric feeding disorders and ARFID extra difficult. In particular, many young clients in my clinic present with high severity Autism and a cluster of other diagnoses such as: ADHD, Anxiety, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), Dysautonomia, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD), Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), ME/CFS (chronic fatigue), and Paediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Disorders (PANDAS and PANS).
ARFID & Paediatric Feeding Disorder
I support children long-term who have high severity feeding problems in Autism that includes Paediatric Feeding Disorder (PFD) and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). These feeding disorders typically create hidden deficiencies and malnutrition, which have life long impacts on developmental and mental health outcomes if left untreated. These nutrition deficits affect all of the kids who present to our clinic. Even for those kids and teens with extremely restrictive food intake who are not responsive to “feeding therapies,” there are usually solutions for improving nutrition intake through specialist products.
Enteral Nutrition: NGT & PEG Feeding
Some kids cannot get sufficient nutrition via oral feeding. They need nasogastric tube (NGT) feeding, or some form of gastrostomy such as Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) feeding. I provide long term nutrition support for infants, children and teens who require enteral feeding at home with NDIS funding support. I have extensive expertise in tube feeding from previously working in children’s hospitals and for many years in my clinic. In particular, I specialise in tube feeding with kids who have complex requirements associated with neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders.
